Our Church

We are blessed with a beautiful church in which we gather as a community for prayer and celebration.

Designed by the Irish architect J.J Mc Carthy. The church was built by the local community led by Father Eugene Clarke P.P.

At the time of the opening in 1850 it was described as "a strict revival of a simple parish church of the middle ages".

In the early 1900's the beautiful granite stone work of the extension was rendered over spoiling the effect of an otherwise handsome and well site church.

St Kevin's was very carefully restored to it's original beauty for the Jubilee Year 2000 ad. The Church continues to serve the liturgical and devotional needs of parishioners, and pilgrims alike. It houses the icons of St. Kevin and St. Laurence O’Toole, which were written for the Jubilee Year by Sr. Aloysius McVeigh. Copies of these icons, mounted on hardboard, are available in various sizes.

A significant part of the Church grounds has been laid out as a meditation garden designed by Bro. Joseph McNally.

The church is open every day of the year. Pilgrims and visitors of all faiths are welcome, coming as individuals or as groups. Groups who wish to use the Church for public prayer are asked to contact the parish office glendalough2007@eircom.net in advance, to ensure that there is no other scheduled service.

Please take our tour of the parish church to see more of our church and its interior.

By following the Words and Reflections link, you can access some material for reflection, prepared as an A4 brochure in pdf format. This is available in nine languages.
